Does it really need to be Kosher certified?

Kosher certification for food containers makes a lot of sense.

Kosher certified products now represent a whopping 1/3 of all products for sale at American and Canadian supermarkets, according to COR. While the certification is mostly applicable to food products, consumer demand is driving the growth of certification in food and non-food products alike.

As Rabbi Zushe Yosef Blech explains, some non-food products that come into close contact with food may contain release agents made from animal fats. This can be the product's resin itself, or even lubricants used on the machinery used to produce the product. So while a product may be FDA approved, it is not necessarily Kosher.

To meet the need of today's growing Kosher market, CuBE has obtained the stamp of Kosher approval by two of the most recognized Rabbinic certifying bodies,  Orthodox Union (OU) and Kashruth Council of Canada (COR). This applies to all of CuBE's black, white and clear containers, as well as all lids. The certification assures consumers that all materials, derivatives, tools and machinery have zero trace of non Kosher substances.

We know food containers well - we manufacture them! Our motto has always been ‘RE-USE’ and that’s why we made products that are durable and versatile for use by businesses and consumers alike. Our recent article describing the different end-of-life options for food service waste explained that each option – biodegrading, composting or recycling – requires some level of processing that is attached to its own environmental footprint. All except re-using, which is when a food container is repeatedly used for the same purpose: to contain food. But re-purposing is just as green of an option and the possibilities are endless when you use a container for non-food purposes. We started an idea-sharing display at work called “Life After Food”, where our colleagues brought in some inspired ideas on how they’re re-purposing their CuBE containers at home. Here are our top 10 favorites:
