Think biodegradable is the truly green choice? Think again! Re-Usability of products lost the limelight to disposables ages ago. Maybe our grandparents were right? Consumers are finally catching on to Re-Usable cloth bags, but what about our food storage containers? It’s true that glass containers of the past didn’t have the technology to create leak proof products that are versatile and flexible, but todays plastics companies create products that are disposed of after just one use. Why not RE-USABLE plastic?

CuBE Plastics containers are all Re-Usable, recyclable and use significantly less material than most plastics companies on the market. CuBE products are environmentally sustainable: the better choice; a container that can go from freezer to microwave to dishwasher, can be re-used more often than the leading brands and after multiple uses, is then 100% recyclable. Compared to many bio-degradable products that can only be used once and then are left in a landfill, expected to bio-degrade over many years; we and many others around the globe believe that RE-USABILITY is the true sustainable solution.

“Landfills Too Tightly Packed for Most Trash to Biodegrade… Most landfills do not let much air in. As such, any biodegration that does take place does so very slowly… a landfill study conducted by University of Arizona researchers uncovered still-recognizable 25 year old hot dogs, corncobs and grapes in landfills.”

“unlike compostable products, there are no industry standards for what is and isn’t considered biodegradable… there are dozens if not hundreds of manufacturers who are now claiming that their materials will biodegrade in landfills as a result of some magic additive… there is no data to support this.”

“The term ‘biodegradable’ has been applied to a wide range of products- even those that might take centuries to decompose, or those that break down into harmful environmental toxins”

“Greenwash is a term used to describe the practice of companies disingenuously spinning their products and policies as environmentally friendly… it is a deceptive use of green PR or green marketing. The term ‘green sheen’ is used to describe organizations that attempt to show that they are adopting practices beneficial to the environment… the term is generally used when significantly more money or time has been spent advertising being ‘green’ rather than spending resources on environmentally sound practices”

“Technically, biodegradable refers to anything that breaks into smaller pieces until microorganisms can consume it. The reality in foodservice is quite different. Unlike compostable products, there are no industry standards for what is and isn’t considered biodegradable… ‘biodegradable has really turned more into a marketing term’, says Anne Bedarf, a project manager with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, ‘The other big issue is that the consumer confusion is that  if something is biodegradable, it’s great to be in a landfill. I can litter it, and it will go away’. But Bedarf says that actual breakdown of anything in landfills is rare”.
